Pumpkin Carving Contest 2009

October 25, 2009. Shortarmguy and Brock Lesnar

On Sunday, our old buddy, Krazy Kory, and his pal stopped by after seeing the Minnesota Vikings squeak out a win against the Baltimore Ravens. We were only together for a short time, but it was good to see Kory because a few days after this photo was taken he became a father again for the second time. His wife, Kelli, gave birth to a baby girl named Harli Grace Madson on Thursday. Read all about it here. Congratulations, Madsons!!

Luke and Avery kept busy preparing their pumpkins for the annual Cub Scout Pack 331 Pumpkin Carving Contest. Luke decided to make a Puking Pumpkin while Avery wanted to celebrate his love of golf this year. We thought they both turned out pretty clever!
As usual, the competition was very tough this year! Our Pack is full of professional pumpkin artists so unfortunately Luke and Avery didn’t win any of the awards. They did get to eat a bunch of pumpkin guts, though, so it was just like they were winners anyways.
We had a special treat at this week’s Pack Meeting when our former Committee Chairperson, Troy Brown, stopped by to tell us he’s now the Committee Chairperson for the local Boy Scout Troop. He gave the boys an impassioned plea to be sure they join Boy Scouts after they complete their Cub Scout requirements. He then looked at the crowd, swallowed the entire microphone whole, and walked out of the room. It was a pretty effective speech.
On Thursday night, we were excited to have a visit from our old friend, Melissa Cuddihy. She’s studying to become a registered nurse and for one of her assignments she needed to write a paper about a family. She asked if we’d be up for it and we were happy to help her with it. For some reason when she got here, though, she kept insisting that we check out her throat. I’m not sure why. I hope she’s not coming down with that H1N1 virus or anything…
Ever since I read an article about the movie, Paranormal Activities, I’ve been dying to see it. Unfortunately for me, my lovely wife refused to go with me to see it and I had no friends around that wanted to join me, so I headed to the theater by myself on Saturday afternoon. I was amazed by this film! Part Exorcist, Part Amityville Horror, and Part Blair Witch Project I found myself pretty much terrified throughout this movie. A couple of times I had to remind myself that there were two little 20 year old girls behind me that hadn’t run out of the theater yet, so I probably shouldn’t do that either. I give it One Quivering Big Thumb Up!!

Before I entered the theater, I stared at the movie poster for quite awhile. It clearly warned me to “Don’t See It Alone!” I finally talked myself into going inside and was surprised to discover that I was the only one in the place! I found it just a bit spooky. I held on tight though and said I was there to Face my Fears. So I sat in there for awhile and waited for the movie to start. I guess I should have expected it, but when the blank screen suddenly lit up with the first commercials, I nearly pooped my pants. Want to know how I felt while I watched this movie? Happy Halloween, 2009!

When I came home from the movie, I discovered my wife up on the roof. I shook my head as I thought about the fact that she’s too scared to go see Paranormal Activities, but has no qualms about running around on a slippery roof top making sure that the Christmas Lights are hung up before Halloween. But I guess if she didn’t do it, Christmas would probably be a pretty dark holiday at the Shortarmguy House!

Shortarmguy.com will be undergoing some changes in the coming weeks.

I’ve been wanting to convert my website to a better blogging platform for years, but considering I’ve been building this site one page at a time every week for more than10 years now, it’s become a bit unwieldy.  I haven’t figured out a good way to install a better blogging platform on to the front page of this site and still leave my existing pages intact.  If any of you skilled webmasters out there want to help me figure out a good way to do this, I’d certainly be willing to pay you for your time.  Please email me at shortarmguy@aol.com to discuss your ideas.  In the meantime, visit my new site for the same weekly content you’ve been used to except now I’ll be updating it daily!

The new website address is:

Thanks so much for visiting my site!!!
