Haacks in Town

Diary Entry For September 14, 2009 Email Shortarmguy at Shortarmguy@aol.com
On Saturday, we had the pleasure of receiving a visit from Miss Sheri’s family. They could hardly contain their excitement at the prospect of going to play miniature golf!
We had the kids play ahead of us, but we kept having to rein them in because they’d run ahead of us on multiple holes. Not that we minded them getting the extra playing time, but it seemed that every time they’d be out of our sight, one of them would end up getting hit up the side of the head with a gold club.
After golf, we decided to rent some paddle boats and go for a ride across the lake. I volunteered to take the three boys because I thought they’d be great help at paddling the boat. I predicted that one wrong. Man, did I get tired on the ride back!
Jerry and Laura didn’t have any paddling problems as they zipped around the lake ahead of us. The boys and I tried to keep up with them for awhile, but finally gave up. I’m guessing they snuck some sort of a motor on the boat when we weren’t looking!
On Sunday, we went to the Minnesota Zoo. Avery loves to stick his hand in the waterfall and then splash Grandma with the water. I don’t think she’s real fond of it, though.
Luke enjoyed this massive fish in one of the aquariums. He discovered that if he put his face right up on the glass, the fish would freak out, open it’s mouth wide, and try to bite him. Naturally, the fish couldn’t actually reach him and instead would just ram the glass. I really hope it’s lips are feeling better by now.
When I was a kid, Bald Eagles were endangered and you’d never see one in a zoo! Now they’re so prevalent, they actually let you throw rocks at this one. It’s pretty crazy.
This guy has a cage right across the row. He’s thinking “MMMMM…..Eagle Meat!”
On Tuesday, Luke and Avery enjoyed their first day of school! These smiles lasted all the way until we got to the bus stop this year, which just may be a new record!
Nice Emails of the Week That lumber machine is the coolest thing I’ve seen since…..since…… well since the LAST lumber machine video you sent with the Bobcat in it. J The guys at work are going to love this.

Quote of the Week

“I try to do the right thing at the right time. They may just be little things, but usually they make the difference between winning and losing.”

Jokes of the Week

His request approved, the Fox News photographer quickly used a cell phone to call the local airport to charter a flight.

He was told a twin-engine plane would be waiting for him at the airport.

Arriving at the airfield, he spotted a plane warming up outside a hanger.

He jumped in with his bag, slammed the door shut, and shouted, ‘Let’s go’.

The pilot taxied out, swung the plane into the wind and took off.

Once in the air, the photographer instructed the pilot, ‘Fly over the valley and make low passes so I can take pictures of the fires on the hillsides.’

‘Why?’ asked the pilot.

‘Because I’m a photographer for Fox Cable News,’ he responded. ‘And I need to get some close up shots.’

The pilot was strangely silent for a moment, finally he stammered, ‘So, what you’re telling me, is . . . you’re NOT my flight instructor?’

September 14, 2009

I am thankful…

1. For the husband who snores all night, because he is at home asleep with me and not with someone else.

2. For my teenage daughter who is complaining about doing dishes, because that means she is at home & not on the streets.

3. For the taxes that I pay because it means that I am employed.

4. For the mess to clean after a party because it means that I have been surrounded by friends.

5. For the clothes that fit a little too snug because it means I have enough to eat.

6. For my shadow that watches me work because it means I am out in the sunshine.

7. For a floor that needs mopping, and windows that need cleaning because it means I have a home.

8. For all the complaining I hear about the government because it means that we have freedom of speech.

9. For the parking spot I find at the far end of the parking lot because it means I am capable of walking and that I have been blessed with transportation.

10. For the noise I have to bear from my neighbors because it means that I can hear.

11. For the pile of laundry and ironing because it means I have clothes to wear.

12. For weariness and aching muscles at the end of the day because it means I have been capable of working hard.

13. For the alarm that goes off in the early morning hours because it means that I am still alive.
